Let’s begin then.
Chapter 1: How To Get Started Publishing On Kindle
Kindle has become huge over the last few years. Everywhere you go you see people holding their Kindle’s and being engrossed in their reading… and it has become equally as popular as an online business model. People from all around the world have written books and turned themselves into published authors.
Also kindle Publishing is one of the coolest way to earn passive income online.
Moreover it is very easy to get start with kindle publishing as you will see in a moment.
You can publish your book, along with necessary formatting and editing, in just half an hour. It cannot get easier than this. (we do this in chapter-6)
All you have to do is write out your book on MS Word or google docs (or any other) and then follow some simple steps to publish it. (which we will cover in chapter 7)
Now that we have talked a bit about how easy it is to start with kindle self publishing, it’s time to get to the actual steps and getting started with publishing
Chapter 2: How To Pick A Profitable Niche
Picking a profitable niche for publishing your book is one of the most important metric that will determine whether your book sells or not.
Make a mistake doing the research and you will end up wasting a lot of time publishing a book that will never sell more than 2 copies in its lifetime.
In this chapter I will walk you through the process of determining a profitable niche. This step will guarantee your success more than anything else. So let’s get right into it:
Let’s start with a basic search.
- Go to amazon.com and set the category to kindle.
- Type in a broad keyword on any topic you are interested in.
Example: I searched for mindfulness.
The basic criteria is to see whether people will buy books on mindfulness is to check the amazon best seller rankings of the book that appear on the first page. The ranking should be less than #100,000.
Open each book in new tab so you can look for this criteria. Don’t start analyzing the cover, don’t start checking the competition, rather first and foremost check whether the keyword is profitable.
I clicked the first result and checked the amazon best-seller ranking of the book.
As you can see this book has amazon best sellers rank #88,974 which is below #100,000 which shows that this niche has potential.
Now all you have to do is go to the second book on the first page and repeat the process.
If you find it a little bit troubling to find a profitable niche, then keep reading because you will find the next chapter to be gold mine for you.
Quick Tip: One way of increasing your research speed for finding a profitable keyword is to download an app called kindlespy.
What it does is it summarizes all the information you need to know for example: It shows you the kindle book titile, estimated sales, price, monthly revenue etc. Instead of going through and checking the ranking of each book manually, you can have the kindlespy do all the work for you.
I will highly recommend this to anyone who is serious about kindle publishing and wants to make good passive income through it.
Chapter 3: List Of 100+ Profitable Niches 2017
You have learned in the previous chapter on how to find a profitable niche.
But I know it’s probably a lot of work to go out and search for those niches and pick them out hand by hand.

Feel free to check these profitable book topic niches out:

Chapter 4: How To Write Your First Amazing Book
Once you have identified your keywords and your niche, now you have to get to the actual work.
When it comes to writing a book you have two choices:
1.Either write it yourself or
2.Hire a freelancer/ghostwriter to write for you.
Let’s talk about pros & cons of both of the above approaches.
When Writing The Book Yourself.
The Pros: If you are into writing, then you will enjoy the process of writing your own e-book. You can use your own style and get your message across the way you want to.
The Cons: Writing book yourself can really be an amazing yet exhausting process and I won’t recommend you to do it unless you are really passionate about the topic you are writing about. If you plan on writing the book yourself, you better be ready to put in the hours and edit it later on.
Let’s talk about hiring a freelancer to write for you:
The Pros: This is one of the best ways to get a book written because it saves time and lets you focus on more critical aspects of publishing which are promoting the book itself.
The Cons: Costs you money. You must have to invest decent amount of dollars if you want to hire a quality ghostwriter.
How To Find A Freelancer
To find a freelancer you can go to websites like upwork.com, fiverr.com, freelancer.com
My favorite place for hiring freelancers is upwork.com but you can decide this for yourself. Feel free to choose any of them. Here is a sample template you can use to post a gig on these freelancing websites:
Title: Writer with “Mindfulness” topic experience needed for writing e-book
Looking for a writer with “mindfulness” topic experience to help write a 5,000 word ( any word count) e-book.
The writer should have experience in the topic of meditation and mindfulness.
Should be fluent in English (native preferred)
Should follow directions clearly.
Must have experience formatting books into .pdf format – Must be all original but well researched content.
Note: This is just a sample template, you can modify it according to your requirements!
Chapter 5: How To Get An Awesome Book Cover
Keyword & cover actually go together.
What you should strive for is a neat title in the cover. The title should be clearly visible. Nothing should be blurred or out of place. Make sure you have a good quality picture.
Book Cover is really important because people will judge your book by the cover, no matter what the quotes say. Make sure your cover is appealing to your audience.
Here is an example of good cover:
Here is an example of bad cover:
You have couple of choices here:
- Either design the cover yourself or
- Hire a designer to do it for you
Both of them have their own pros and cons.
- Designing the cover yourself:
The Pros: It’s free. You can design a cover using canva.com or any other online editor of your choice.
You can make the cover on your own terms very quickly and easily.
The Cons: If have no previous experience in designing you might have a hard time making one for yourself.
Although creating the cover would be free, it won’t look professional the way a designer can make it for you.
- Hiring a freelancer.
Here is how you can hire a freelancer from fiverr:
- Go to fiverr.com and type in the word kindle cover
You will find a lot of gigs there that will show you the list of people who can make the cover for you.
I will recommend to check the ratings on the freelancer and what is their turnaround time.
If you are a beginner try not to go for a gig of more than 5$.
Chapter 6: How To Format Your Book For Kindle
If you followed all the steps in the chapters before this, you will have at this time – A book written on a profitable niche topic you selected & an appealing cover made.
But the work doesn’t stop here.
The next step is to format your document (word, google doc ) into the kindle format so that it can be easily read on kindle.
If you want to do formatting yourself and are looking for information about formatting books, then CLICK HERE and you will be automatically directed to the Kindle Direct Publishing website.
Or if you want to outsource this task then go to fiverr.com and enter “formatting kindle”in the search bar. There are lots of sellers offering that kind of service. It is really worth the money. Honestly, there is really nothing worse than formatting an eBook.
Some sellers offer both cover design and eBook formatting! You can save money and your precious time by hiring a seller who offers both services.
BUT – if you are not interested in spending any more money by getting it formatted by a freelancer then follow the next steps:
1.Add Page Breaks
First off, we should talk about page breaks because they’re the one thing that trips up a lot of new publishers.
If you upload a doc file to Amazon, Kindle won’t have any way of knowing where chapters end. You have to specifically designate any time you want to add a page break, otherwise everything will just run together.
So it’s a good rule of thumb to add page breaks after the last sentence of every chapter. You’ll also want to add them anywhere else you want a page break, such as after the title page, the copyright page, the dedication page, the prologue or preface if you have one, etc.
Adding a page break in Microsoft Word is very easy. Just click Insert > Break on the menu at the top of the screen. When the prompt pops up, select “Page Break” and click OK. That’s all there is to it.
2.Use Font Formats
You want to use basic fonts like Arial or Times New Roman for your books, also keep the font size at either 10, 12, 14, 16, or 18.
They say that Kindle only acknowledges font up to size 18. Also you can use Bold text, italics, underlined, and links as well, but there are some things you can’t use like bullets; and headers or footers won’t show up either.
Keep in mind that Kindle allows people to automatically resize text, so it’s best to write your books using the smallest text size you can in order to get a grasp on the number of pages you’re writing.
3. Table of Contents
Finally, you’re going to probably want an active table of contents. By “active” I mean it’ll have links in it that people can click on in Kindle and be transported to that chapter in your book.
A lot of people have difficulty creating an active table of contents but this link will make that task a piece of cake for you:
Other than that, just use good judgment. Try to put yourself in your reader’s shoes. Short books with large text, lots of double spacing and white space are probably going to annoy people.
Try to format your book like other books you’ve already read on the Kindle and you’ll probably be just fine.
If you’re writing non-fiction, there’s a good chance you may want to add pictures of some sort to your book. I just use the Insert > Picture > From File function in Word to do that.
It is that simple.
Chapter 7: Publishing Your Book On KDP

Don’t need to enter any ISBN, publisher information and date of publication. They are not required.
Don’t forget to enter your SEVEN keywords about your book.
After this, upload your book cover with a dimension of 1563 pixels wide by 2400 pixels tall.
Step 5 – Check before you SAVE and CONTINUE
Once the book is converted to .mobi format. Preview the book to see for formatting and see if there are any errors, if so, correct the book and upload the book again. If you book has no errors. Then save and continue.
Select all of the territories and select the pricing. Here you have 2 options, 70% and 35%. If you want to capture some quick sales, then go with 35% option because it will help you rank in amazon search engine and also more people will be willing to pay low price for your book.
Once you see sales coming, and your amazon ranking going up, then raise the price and also transfer to 75% option and list price of your book is going to be between $2.99 and $9.99.
Step 7 – Wait for Amazon’s Approval
The final step in publishing, is to wait for amazon to approve your book, it normally takes about 24 hours.
If want to make changes to your book or description or the author or keywords, you will need to submit your book again for approval and this time, it will take a couple of hours for approval.
